For 4 days, science, knowledge and innovation on poultry nutrition came together at PortAventura Convention Centre. “Catalonia has to be part of the changes that global poultry production has to confront” noted Meritxell Serret, the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food at the opening of the 21st edition of the European Symposium on Poultry Nutrition – the most globally significant event in this sector which was held at PortAventura Convention Centre from 8th – 11th May.
The Minister encouraged all participants at the congress to “work together to deepen and further these and many other topics, with the objective of building safe, healthy, efficient and sustainable agro-feeding systems”.
The congress that occupied the entire convention centre at PortAventura World brought together delegates, nutritionists, professors, scientists and businesses from more than 60 countries, of which more than 50% were outside the European Union. Over the 4-day period, six conference sessions were prepared for groups to discuss the most significant topics on poultry nutrition. The main room of the convention centre hosted more than 1700 attendees, as well as putting up some 30 stands where various publications of the sector were exhibited, a large poster room where studies were presented displaying scientific data and 2 large rooms with a total of 20 separate spaces for the debate groups.
During the first night of the event, the congress attendees enjoyed the opening of an exclusive area in PortAventura World where welcome cocktails were served, as well as popular dances and habaneras songs by the Mediterrània lake. Over the three days of the congress, attendees stayed in 3 out of the 5 PortAventura World hotels.
This time, the Research and Technology for Food and Agriculture Institute of the Generalitat de Catalunya (IRTA) organised the 21st European Symposium on Poultry Nutrition in conjunction with the Centre Europeu de Convencions (European Convention Centre) – an event that has been held every two years in different cities since 1977 with the help of The World’s Poultry Science Association. The event received support from 32 sponsor companies and the collaboration of the Salou and Vila-seca local councils.
