Sustainability

As a result of our commitment to the natural environment and surroundings, PortAventura bases its activity on a management model that allows us to develop our business with maximum respect for the environment, above and beyond the requirements demanded by law. Proof of this lies in the various environmental certifications of renowned prestige that we have been awarded, such as the European Certification EMAS, standard ISO14001.

The ISO 22000 standard is an international standard on food safety developed by the International Organization for Standardization. It encompasses the entire supply chain, from the production of raw materials, to customer service. It aims to protect consumers and reinforce their confidence.

At PortAventura World, we have created an Interdisciplinary Food Safety Team, to address the safety of our products from different perspectives and to establish common objectives that we embody in our Food Safety Policy.

PortAventura Resort holds ISO 22000 certification for PortAventura, El Paso, Caribe, Gold River, Mansión de Lucy and Colorado Creek hotels, and has also obtained this certification in the central kitchen of the Convention Center.

Sustainable Development Goals

In 2015, the UN approved the 2030 agenda on sustainable development, an opportunity for countries and their societies to embark on a new path to improve the lives of all, without leaving anyone behind. The agenda has 17 Sustainable Development Goals, which range from eliminating poverty to combating climate change, education, women’s equality, environmental protection and the design of our cities.

ENVIRONMENT

Environmental management is a priority for the company and is a key component of sustainable development of the Resort. PortAventura World has voluntarily entered into several initiatives with various organisations and is committed to conservation of the environment through good practices, responsible consumption and continuous improvement.

ISO14001

ISO 14001 is the internationally-recognised standard for the implementation of management systems targeted at continuous improvement of the environmental aspects of a business. It consists of a series of measures and activities intended to guide, direct, plan, control, and improve an organisation by enforcing compliance of the relevant legal environmental requirements and reducing the environmental impact of a company.

Environmental Policy

At PortAventura we fulfil our responsibility to the Environment, as stated in our Environmental Policy.

Environmental Policy 2024

The AENOR Zero Waste certification recognises organisations that recover more than 90% of the various waste fractions they generate, within the defined scope, thereby avoiding the landfill as their ultimate destination. In 2021, PortAventura World recovered 97% of its wastes.

This scheme does not imply the non-generation of waste but rather that it is managed in such a way that reduces the amount of waste and allows any generated to be reused and/or transformed into raw materials and reintroduced into the value chain.

The CIRCULAR ECONOMY model seeks to invert the current pyramid of waste management, maximising the actions of prevention and recovery of waste (reuse, recycling or energy recovery).
